My Steering is A grinding squeaking mess! HELP

Hi Guys,
So this is the problem... couple of weeks ago i hear a kind of dull long high pitched moan as im turning my 1.2 X reg Fiat Punto steering wheel. I figure this is weird so take it to a garage, i show them the problem and they say let it develop (reassuring huh???) so a couple of days ago the whining noise has changed to a grinding squeaking noise with feedback coming through the wheel like twangs of a guitar string :S I'm going to take it to the garage this weekend but thought I'd let you chaps and chapettes have a go at clueing me in on how much this thing is gonna cost me.

Its a bit of a sore point fixing this as ive already had the following sorted in the year I've had the car.

Head Gasket, 3 new shocks, windscreen wiper linkage, drivers and passenger seat problems, tracking done 3 TIMES!!! plenty of uneven tyres chewed through, electrical problems all this adding upto easily £1000 + on bills!

Any help would be much appreciated GUYS + GIRLS!!!-:worship:

I have an 04 Active Sport Punto. Nothin modified apart from Head Unit.

When i turn right it grinds. Been doing it for past 6 months. Asked the Fiat garage, they said the same, wait to see what develops.

Took the car to garage for its service last week, everything changed including brakes and pads at an independant garage.

Still grinding today. This weekend it goes for its MOT. Should pass tbf, the only thing wrong last MOT was a wheel bearing in the right and that was replaced. Could the grinding be a wheel bearing gone?

I have heard a squeaking coming from my wheel bearing every now and again, i wouldnt rule this out but im usure. my grinding only seems to happen at certain points when i steer being worst when I'm steering left. Any experts that could clear this up would be great.
