Well since Alex spotted that I had updated my signature with a Turbo I thought I would post a picture of the little beast.

I bought it about 3 weeks ago now for a reasonable figure, well I thought it wasn't too bad. It didn't come with an MOT but it got through with a bit of welding on the underside.

It is a is a G plate model, standard as far as I can see. It has just over 100,000 on the clock and the engine seems solid, doesn't overboost or smoke. Will probably give it a comprehensive service in a couple of weeks.

Rust wise the arches are all fine, there is some rust on the bottom of the drivers door and the odd bit of surface rust in other place, nothing too bads. The worst rust is on the roof, around the sunroof which needs rubbing down, and treating.

As for my plans, not sure really, I might keep for a shortwhile but haven't decided yet.

:woot:

Another turbo! And a VERY early mk2 at that on a 'G' plate (1989 or 1990?).

I noticed your sig as well, but didn't say anything because I thought it was wishful thinking on your behalf!

Looks nice, though the sunroof will be a pain to deal with. If you're going to sort the rust out, then remove the headlining and the whole sunroof assembly. It's actually quite easy to do, and then you'll be able to get to all the areas that needs dealing with.

And it's nice to get a glimpse of the black mk1! I want to see more pics!

Looking forward to hearing more about both Unos :)

ITS WAS YOU I SEE IN REDHILL!!! lol

On monday coming out of the multi-storey car park at about lunch time?

I was in the back of a white corsa?

I gave you a thumbs up???? lol

bring it up to east surrey college mate id love to see it!

Im here till 730 tonite and tomorrow nite!

I saw and thort "o **** a Turbo!!"

I reckon you are probably right, how many other blue mk2 Uno Turbos can there be in Redhill? It was probably Friday you saw me because I worked from home and went to Sainsburys at lunch. Decided I'd take the Turbo out for a spin. I do seem to remember seeing a white corsa stuffed full of blokes although I missed your thumbs up.

I'll see if I can pop down tomorrow night. :D

Hello Mario, yep back on the road. I'm surprised nobody recognised it but I have removed the Abarth/Scorpion stickers!

The welding was exactly where you said it was, only a small patch, got advisory for the screen for the chips which hopefully I can get the RAC to fix for free and rear tyres too which will need replacing soon. They were on backwards which probably didn't help the wear situation if they'd been like that for a while.

The chap that put the MOT on it had a little trouble with the car trying to start itself while it was already running. I got a message he'd had a nightmare with it starting itself and had images of it falling off the ramp. In the end he traced it to an earth problem, not been a problem since. He mentioned the alarm was a bit of a birds nest and sorted that out too

All ok so far apart from that. I've done 300+ miles so far without any problems. Took it to work today while the Alfa was getting a wheel bearing replaced, was getting a bit worried with temps while stacked back from the Dartford tunnel, need to check the fan/temp sensor is working ok.

I forgot to ask when or if it's had its cambelt change recently, if not I'll probably do it when I give it a service in a couple of weeks.

Anything more I need to know about the car?

1986Uno45s - the car was first registered in April 1990. When was the Mk2 introduced?

Hi Trevor,

Not too sure why ur MOT guys had difficulties with starting the car, never in over 7 years had a problem.

Same can be said for laserline alarm. Maybe he had difficulties disarming the immobilizer, as it arms automatically arms itself after approx 1 min.

>>He mentioned the alarm was a bit of a birds nest and sorted that out too
Obviously this guy isn't totally experienced with alarms and was fitted by a pro, not sure if he was totally straight with you!

I would also say that this car was well looked after, and not the normal abused toot around.

Nope, other than the car is 16 years old, and is a Fiat, and things are bound to inevitably go wrong, which is all part of the fun of owning an Uno Turbo!:slayer:

Anyhow, keep us posted on any new developments.

p.s. The last of the Mk1's were 1989 (G Reg) and the First of the Mk2's were 1990 (G Reg), if i'm not mistaken.

Almost! The Unos were around when there was the August registration letter on the number plate. The last of the mk1s went right up until late 1989, and those registered after August 1989 wore a 'G' plate. The mk2 was introduced in the autumn of 1989, so these too would have worn a 'G' plate.

An April 1990 mk2 is one of the earlier ones, though a late 1989 mk2 would have been one of the first. I've also noticed that early mk2's seem to rust worse than the later models (and worse than late mk1s!), so yours is an exception! Ask Dunc to find out how bad an early mk2 turbo can rust ;) :p Better get the Waxoyl out sharpish!

There was no problem starting the car, the problem he had was the starter motor was trying to start the engine when it was already running! He left the car running to bring it upto temperature for the emissions test, went to grab a cup of tea and the car starter was engaging!

I haven't got any major plans for it at the moment - certainly won't be doing a Dunc in the immediate future! Will give it a good service soon, and as suggested get under the car and refresh all the underseal. The breaks aren't as good as I would like, compared to the Alfa and most cars I've driven over the last few years they are pretty shocking, so that'll be my first upgrade, replace disks and pads upfront and replace brake fluid. Next might be lowered all round on konis and that will probably be about it.

Well I've just put this up in the classifieds. Not because there is anything wrong with it but because I'm hoping to have the Mk1 on the road very soon and even I can't justify or afford to MOT, Tax, Insure run or 3 cars and a motorbike. I've spent more time and effort on the Mk1 so want to keep that for now.

I've agreed to sell the UT and have a deposit for the car :( . Scheduled to go the weekend of the 17th September

Since it is pretty much 100% gone what should my next project be? Looking to so something in the near year. How about a Strada 130TC?

Sold??????

Who has brought it mate?

Some bloke who saw it on ebay will let him know about the forum when he pops back with the full wedge. I'm not convinced I want to sell it but too late now I have his deposit. Took it out for a spin at lunch and was good - might take it to the Ace Cafe next Thursday before it goes.
