Mission name: Operation Black Strip.
Time: 1700 hours
Location: Harrow, North West London
Date: 3rd - 4th April 2010
Weather: Mainly light, getting darker as the afternoon went on. Dry and breezy. No hurricanes.
Other notes: Slight feeling of nausea, probably arising from the feast of pickled turnips and the 2 pints of mint sauce I washed them down with, for lunch.

Time is drawing closer, the end is almost upon us. No, not yet another "end of the world" storyline in Doctor Who, rather the spares and repairs Uno on my dad's driveway is starting to outlive its' usefulness, as well as being raped of any useful spare parts. Soon, it'll be hauled off by a man with no teeth and hairy knuckles, and turned into a little cube of Uno.

However, that was still after I had to remove any bits I wanted and gave the go-ahead to dad to ring the modern day caveman to remove the stripped shell of a car, from times gone by, from the driveway of my childhood.

Armed only with a box of blue rubber work gloves, a cup of tea, a hammer, can of WD40 and a garage of every tool you can imagine (and some you cannot imagine) I set about picking over the carcass of the car like some crazy walking, talking, and hitting things with a hammer, vulture.

Here's a list of things that I removed in the previous 24hours, barring "skin from my knuckles when the adjustable spanner slipped":

Boot
Bonnet
Bumper (front)
Speedo cable
Radiator
Clocks
Headlight
Weather seal strip for the boot
Some plastic things
Battery tray
Ignition coil
Exhaust manifold
Exhaust manifold heat shield for air intake
Tried to remove the entire wiring loom, but can't remove the dashboard :(
All fuses

I tried to gently remove the windscreen..... but it cracked :bang:

Only a few things left now that I want; rear view mirror, all lock barrels, wheel hubs, carburettor, gearbox (no use to me however), door cards and handles, window winders.

erm.. yeah.
I'm going to stop typing now as I'm having chocolate eggs being pushed into my face. :D

AlexGS - <elvis>Thankyouverymuch</elvis>
*hip thrust*

Jo0lz - I think it is a 4 speed from a Mk2 903cc engine, but will check for you tomorrow morning. :)

It's an early mk2 with a 999cc FIRE engine ;)

Is it?
That's news to me.

Then again, I did wonder why bother making a car with a smaller engine and more doors. :bang:

Jo0lz - it is indeed a 4 speed :(

Jai - On Thursday, I didn't think I would be coming down due to petrol costs, however I ended up getting my arm twisted by my sister, and got a lift from Bristol with an uncle at the last moment, otherwise I would have :D

Had another awesome morning picking over car parts like a vulture over a hollowed out hyena.
Got a bruised finger now though, again after the spanner slipped.

Damn spanners and their slipping.
*shakes fist at spanners*

Woke up at about 10.30 and decided it was too overcast to do any work.
Ate 4 weetabix and as i felt that i could take the world on in a fight and win, i decided to get working.

On with the overalls and the sexy blue latex gloves, out with the socket set, the WD40 and the largest hammer and outwards to see what the girl could throw at me and what i could throw back.

Just trying to think of any other bits i had taken off now. . .

Weber carb (no idea which model)
intake manifold (had to take a hammer and chisel to this to take it off)
oil pressure sensor
coolant temp sensor
some other sensor that goes on the gearbox (what is this anyway?)
front grill
a pound coin i found im the glove box
rear light cluster covers (want the entire panel instead though)
random screws, bolts and nuts
wiper washer fluid bottle with valves and L joints and pipes.
Engine bay "sound proofing"
rocker cover
rocker cover gasket im good condition

thats about everything i can think of right now. . .

There's still loads of stuff on it that i still want though, including:
gearbox
gear rods (are they the same for the 4 and 5 speed boxes?)
rear light clusters
all 4 wheel hubs
choke cable
throttle cable
brake fluid thing
engine block (is this useful to have as a spare?)
dashboard
heater unit
ignition barrel and door locks
steering wheel

. . . and loads of other stuff i think it will be useful to have, but will never actually use.

if your luck is anything like mine
it will be the bits you don't take
that turn out to be the bits you need in the next few months
Wish I'd taken the brakes off the '89red5door I broke last year
As BlueMk2 is sounding like he needs new rear shoes . . . .
and I could have had a spare set for NoWT

It's an early mk2 with a 999cc FIRE engine ;)

Is it?
That's news to me.

Yes it is ;)

If it's the car that I took the petrol tank from then it's a FIRE engine. I remember the engine looking like a 999cc lump, as per my 45S and your two 999cc Unos. The 903cc engine is an over head valve (ohv) and looks very different to the FIRE. From memory the 903cc carburettor sits at the front of the engine and the FIRE engine carburettor sits at the back. The biggest give away for the FIRE engine is it's flat, rectangular aluminium cam cover with the distributor coming off the end of the camshaft (gearbox end). The ohv engine looks totally different to this, different cam cover, dizzy in the engine block, external water pump running off auxillary belt, no cambelt/ cover because there's no camshaft!

shoulda called the teardown boys in:devil:

Yup, we have a reputation you know
