Hi everyone, I am hoping the combined wisdom here can help me get our car started.

It is a 1.9 diesel Multipla that had been running ok until Friday when my wife went to work as normal and then couldn't start it to come home.

WE have had a couple of problems previously with the Engine Management Light coming on but it has either reset itself while we were driving or it has reset when I have tried to start the car later.

I have also had the crank sensor changed on the advice of the local garage (non fiat).

The one error that does now show up which hasn't before is ABS SYS error and very occasionally EBD Error?

All the normal tricks have failed to get the car started again and I am at a loss.

The list of things that I have checked is as follows:

Battery - Local car parts checked it and it was fine with a full charge
Fuel pump fuse - ok
Fuel isolation switch - reset several times just to make sure
Code recognition seems fine
No faults showing on the Engine Management Unit anbd I reset the MIL.

Any ideas? any help would be most welcome.

Many thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

Do you hear the fuel pump humming when you turn the key to MAR?
If not might want to take a look at the fuel pump relay as well.

Also is it a no crank no start or a crank no start?

Hi DandD

The car turns over and sometimes tries to fire (as in it coughs)

I can hear a faint hum when I turn the ignition on and I have assumed this is the fuel pump as it has never made that much noise.

I will check the relay though, thanks for that.

Well if you can hear it then most likely that it still works.

This is my check list for diesels:
Can it turn over?
Fuel in the tank?
Fuel pump working?
Fuel filter clean?
Fuel at the correct pressure?
ECU signals to injectors?
Injectors are working?
Cylinder compression OK?
Air filter clean?

In that list you will find your problem, I hope I did not miss anything in it if anyone feels that I did, feel free to add to it.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Thanks DandD,

Sorry been away for a couple of days.

I will go through that check list as see what happens
