Technical multipla w reg 1.9 jtd running fault.

hi all as above the engine management light is coming on, when it comes on i have to put the accelerator pedal down about an inch or so more than normal when im pulling away, and it can be jerky but not always it will still drive at 60/70 mph just seems sluggish to drive, it does'nt always come on, i turned the engine of unplugged the air flow meter and sprayed it with wd40 started it up and the light goes out for a short while and then out of the blue it comes on again any ideas before i try another air flow meter, thank you.:bang:

Not sure WD40 is good for the MAF but may be wrong. Try a Search for EGR on this site, sounds likely culprit to me.

wheres the egr valve 1.9jtd

i have a multipla 1.9jtd and been advised it may need the egr valve cleaning, can you please tell me where it is located thank you.

From the front of the engine, RHS at the back, under the plastic engine cover, look for a black corrugated "plastic" type tube... plenty info on how to do the clean / change on this Forum.

sorry dont mean to sound thick ive had a quick look, the plastic pipe your talking about is it the large one coming of the air flow meter follow it down and theres a smaller pipe coming of it and attached to a square plastic box bolted on the inlet manifold is that plastic box the egr?

thank you for your help, but i have'nt got one of them on mine could mine be the round metal thing on the exhaust manifold it has a steel flexible pipe going to the inlet manifold and a vacuum pipe on it?

Remove the large plastic engine cover (if fitted) and post a photo of the top of your engine.

When asking for help it's always useful to give the year.

It's an early model and the EGR is situated on top of the exhaust at the front of the engine.

Its very easy to remove and clean OR put on a blanking plate which is much better - no more problems with loss of power!
