Hello, I am new to the forums and have owned my 2000 Multipla 1.6 for a couple of years now. Last week I noticed that the clutch pedal wouldn't fully spring back into place and the bite point seemed lower to the floor but at that point there was no problem with finding the gears.

Now over the weekend I have had trouble getting into gear but it seemed that once the car had been running for a while the problem disappeared. Fast forward to today and the gears will not engage at all. They will engage if the engine is turned off but absolutely refusing to get into any gear whilst the engine is running. :bang:

Anyone got any suggestions as to what the cause could be , is it something that could be remedied at home or is it a garage job?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Petrol gearboxes appear to be a little fragile, IF it is the gearbox then I'd get it to a gearbox specialist before it becomes terminal.

However, your point about the clutch biting point appearing lower suggests that the issue may be clutch rather than gearbox related. I'm not aware of a gearbox fault that would change the biting point of a clutch.
Got to be worth getting the clutch checked first as it's the cheaper option, if the clutch is eliminated then the gearbox is prime suspect.

Thanks for your reply. I had my local garage take a look at it and it was the Clutch master cylinder.

All fixed now and not too painful on the credit card :D

Out of curiosity - what colour is it? and is it V reg? Just wondering what happened to our first one :)
