Hi I hope someone can help.

My Multipla has developed a fault which the garage seem a little confused by, it beeps and comes up with Engine Control Fault (or Failure?) Contact Garage. basically it reaches about 3500 rpm and then plateaus out, holding 3500 rpm even with foot firmly to the floor.

The garage replaced some kind of turbo pressure sensor but i got about a mile down the road and on it came again. Took it back, they cleared the fault and we both went for a road test and about 2 miles later it flashed on and off, then another 1/2 mile down the road, it came on and stayed on. They are looking at again today but seemed pretty confused by it to be honest.

Anybody help?

Hi. I can sympathise rather than help for now.

My 120 Multipla ELX JTD with 5,500 miles has the same engine control fault problem and is undergoing diagnosis at present. Apparently it goes into "limp home" mode when the fault light comes on which is why you cant go above 3500rpm. If the "fault" hasnt been resolved properly, even after resetting the error message, the warning light will come back on again after a couple of miles or so.

It has been suggested to me that it could be an injector problem but I will keep you posted.

Thanks Nigel, good to know about the 'limp home' mode and that it was a precautionary measure rather than a symptom.

Picked the car up last night - they still think it was the pressure sensor/valve as it wasn't 'seated' quite right driven it to work this morning (circa 25 miles) and all seems fine, i'll let you know if the problem re-occurs.

I have exactly the same problem with my Multipla 1.6 petrol engine. It gets worse when there is rain or when there is rain and going uphill. It tends to sort itself out though after a while. But it's a pain in the...errr...neck.
