Hi, did anyone see it, my mate went to try and get one today (came out sunday) but sold out and i guess its the same for everywhere, it was 2GB, 1.8 inch screen and played videos and music :( did anyone get 1 and do you know of any others around?? thanks alot!! (y)

i found out what aldi is doing a while ago. they put these special offers on to get people in store, but they make sure they dont have any stock in store prior to the start of the sale because they cant afford to sell things that cheap. it was the same with the laptop, and the satnav etc etc etc.

if you go in the day before the sale they will usually have them in stock, but as if by magic the morning the sale starts they're all gone. i tried to get the laptop, and the satnav, i even tried to preorder the satnav, but both times they "sold out" when i got there on the 1st day of the sale. i made a bit of fuss about the sat nav offer and the store manager told me that they wouldnt have them in stock any where in the country and they couldnt get me one because they arent allowed to, but if i wanted one the day after the sale then they would have them in stock again.

surely thats illegal, but i think the "while stocks last" disclaimer covers them legally.

well that clears that up. :)

any reason? have you actually managed to buy one of the laptops or satnavs in the sale? (doesnt count if you work for them obviously)

I agree.

But i think a select 'few' stores DO actually get the sale items out front and sell them at the advertised sale price. and that covers their ass's.

Although what I'd like to see is a inland revenue summoned stock take ON THE DAY OF A SALE. then we'd see that they have 12 of each item in the back 'hiding'.

then they'd be in the proverbial

Well it would count since I would have inside information wouldn't I?

I have bought a number of the aldi specials including having queued up for a laptop 3 years ago when they first stocked Gericom from about 7:30am - that's what you don't realise, if something is good of course it will be gone immediately. Most Aldi stores do not allow staff to purchase goods before opening and most also keep the specials until the designated day.

With the first laptop I bought there they allowed ordering in of them too which is always worth asking for - though in that case it took 4 weeks. You can't expect to go in 10 hours after opening for a bargain laptop - although most aldi deals haven't been good now for about 18 months with the odd exception.

No it's a national thing, size of store in terms of catchment depends on how many each store gets, when i bought my Gericom there was 12 for that store, 8 for the one my sister got her's from etc. Usually with big items they offer a ticket system to prevent mad rushes, though as above, they haven't had much worth going for for a long time now.

i need to know where these special stores are. some of the deals they do are too good to miss. i missed out on the satnav when it was cheaper than ebay prices by a long way, and less than a third of the RRP. i still get pessed off when i think about it.

didn't know they still did the ticketting thing.

I qued with a mate years and years back when they started bringing out those median compies. qued for over an hour, and thought we weren't going to get it, then someone a few metres ahead of us, sai they only wanted the printer so gave us the comp voucher, and we got it(y)

never really had to que in the last year, probably as you say, nothing really worth queing in the cold for. when amazon is probably just as good for the price:D

Re: Discuss your MP4 player pros and cons

I know I'm replying to a thread bounced by a spambot, but... jug - I've LOADS of stuff bought in Aldi or Lidl specials here.

My desktop PC is one of the "too good to possible be true" Aldi machines from about two years ago. They had FIVE of them, meaning I only just got one by being there over 30 minutes before opening time; from Lidl I've got loads of satellite gear at below what it would cost me wholesale before - I worked as a sat installer and still have contacts.

Even if they have one of them its legit to advertise them at that price; and from experience, due to needing to go to the counter to buy them - most people buy and leave straight away; buying nothing else at all. Most people who fail to get them go to the counter to ask, get told 'no' and leave; buying nothing...

It's not a new line from Aldi - they were on sale 8-10 months ago and I bought two at that time.

They are slow to start, have a peculiar menu access but otherwise work well. Mine are 4Gb models and I left it unused for 6 months between house moves.

When I switched it back on it was still fully charged and has been going strong for a few days (being used 4 hours/day).

All in all a great deal!
