Grande Punto Moving on from my Grande Punto...What to choose?

The pre 2007 model uses fords own 2.0 diesel. 2007 onwards with the current shape model, that uses the jointly designed PSA/Ford engine which is no relation to Ford's old 2.0.

Fiat also use this Ford/PSA engine....

And it is a very good engine. Mine produces 163bhp standard easily returns 50mpg and is very quiet, and quick.

That makes sense, although what Fiat models use it?

I thought Fiats 2.0 diesel was a reworked version of the 1.9 which they share with Vauxhall

The engine in ours (2006 zetec) was noisy, unrefined and unreliable. I got rid of it with only 75k on the clock.

They are prone to EGR issues, DMF failures and eating turbo's and injector rails all of which are very costly repairs.

To be fair though my dad had a 2007 (last of old model) as a company car and put 150k on it in 3 years and it was faultless (although still tractor like).
Ah, both the old ford unit.

I like the Megane GT's, you can get a diesel version 150BHP or a 165BHP 2.0 petrol turbo. Both are pretty quick and if you are looking at MPG then the diesel sounds good. You can pick up a pretty reliable one for about 5k with low mileage. Just a thought :)

I would whole heartedly advise even my worst enemy to stay away from Renaults. I heard nothing but bad things about them. Then my cousin got one and it was dreadful. I then bought one (facelift Megane 57 plate. 41,000 miles) as a necessity of a bigger car for my newly born daughter, so I sold my Grande and bought it. And it was horrible. Aside from the electrics that appear to just break constantly, (I personally had issues with the clock spring, 3 separate electric windows, all headlights and left tail light electrics). They are just so badly built, nothing is solid, everything creaks when touched, the body roll is so severe the dashboard would move and rub against the windscreen causing a screeching noise. It's just a bad car. I owned it for 5 months before I couldn't take it no more and went back to fiat (Nuova Bravo).

Ah ok. :S although I've always been a believer that a cars a car, as long as you look after it accordingly. For example not missing servicing etc. yours could have been a bad apple? I just brought it up because for looks, mpg and performance it seemed like a gem. (Although I've never actually been in one let alone driven one) so I think I'll take your advice ;)

You say no to a bravo yet here's one for less than £7,000 with a turbo'd engine (120BHP). It's the same one I have and it's no slow poke believe me). It's the dynamic model with cruise control, duel climate control, updated blue and me system. USB input, Cool box. All around electric mirrors. Cornering lights, trip computer, facelift headlights and gloss black trim. It's less than three years old and only has 14,000 miles on the clock. I dare anybody on this site to find a car less than 3 years old with that many miles and all those extras, for less money.

And I keep seeing people slate the bravo on here. I owned a grande Punto and the bravo is 10 times as good. It's solid. Looks great, has fantastic amount of toys and gadgets and it's powerful. And if the 120BHP (which is actually closer to 130) isn't enough for you there's a 150BHP version of the t-jet engine.

Tell you what take one for a test drive and you will see. And at that sort of mileage the engine is barely run in, you could be starting with a nearly new car. You keep up your services and look after it properly like you should with any car the t-jet engine will keep going for 150,000 miles and some. I'm on 65,000 and the engine still feels quirky, quick and runs great.

Oh and it's not just a "bigger Punto" as a Punto is A vauxhall corsa.
