Hey guys, my clutch went about a month ago, and well I think it's happend again. Driving along as normal and I hear some noises, sounded like I drove over a metal ring or somehting, anyway it went away until I stopped, nothing came from the car when I looked in my mirrow. But once I tried to pull away, there was no response, nothing at all from the clutch in any gear. Oil was leaking from somewhere. It feels like the clutch, but surely not after just one month? Any help is much apriciated, I own a Bravo 1.2sx 51 reg. Thanks again.

Can you still select gear? if so it could be you cv joints!well one of them anyway! i had a simular noise and then the CV joint went! Mines a 1.8...

Would that cause the fluid to leak? How much would that cost to repair? Thanks again

If it was the clutch slave he definatly wont be able to select gear?

Can you still select gear?

Paul R

I can put it into gear yeah, but there is no pull from any of the gears, it doesn't even stall, nothing at all

Maybe not the slave cyl.

Have a peek at the top of the gearbox, under the battery. You will need a torch. See if its wet.

No, definatly not the slave! Mine went on me and i couldnt even get the car in gear! had to start the car in first and drive home at 10mph! not fun! luckily i was close to home!

I think you need a cv joint, if you can select gear then its got to be something to do with the driveshafts? correct me if i am wrong tom!

Paul R

There is no noticable wetness, although the oil is still slightly leaking from somewhere, a friend said it looks as though it's coming from the down pipe, I am mechanically cluless so I've no idea to be honest, but there is noticable wetness, what exactly is a CV joint?

CV is a constant velocity joint, it transfers drive from the gearbox to the engine, its attached to the driveshafts (tom will correct me if i am wrong) but if the gearbox is wet the it aint that, they wouldnt leak out oil just some blobs of grease!

I am all out of ideas? Tom?

Paul R

If its leaking oil its a full on gearbox failure, time to dig out the warranty for your clutch.

Re:Re: More problems

It will leak oil if the cv poped out of the gearbox
Hence no drive

Re: Re:Re: More problems

Well thanks for you help guys, I'm going to have to take it to the garage... AGAIN! Not the biggest fan of my car right now, things going wrong every month. Great when it works though. Thanks again

Re: Re:Re: More problems

Trev, you'd need to snap the driveshaft to get the inner joint out of the gearbox! It would be easy to spot as it would be hanging down under the car.

Re: Re:Re: More problems

You can probably get compansation from the garage that fitted the clutch!

Re: Re:Re: More problems

Well, the garage rang, he said the gear box has been smashed, as if I drove over something heavy. He said £700 ish for a new gear box, is this a fair price, would you recomend looking around scrap yards?
