Evening all, hope you're all well :)

I've just got a quick question for a friend at work who has a lovely white mk2 UT.

He has a blowing exhaust that he has apparently traced back to where the turbo face joins the manifold.

Here is where you guys helps, he is after a new gasket for it but Fiat parts dept have told him that they can no longer get hold of that gasket.

Is it discontinued everywhere or is there somewhere else that he can get the gasket?

Alternatively, does the gasket for the Punto GT fit, as my (very limited) understanding is that the mk2 UT and the PGT used pretty much the same engine/turbo setup?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Simon

This is a common question that seems to be the cause for a lot of confusion.

The turbo flange is the very common Garrett T2. Punto GT is the same. A gasket for this flange should be very easy to get from any turbo supply shop etc.

Fiat dont supply the gaskets (anymore if you like) becuase they were not fitted with them when new. They run a straight metal to metal flange which works fine.

The flanges will warp with time, its one of thoes things. The correct way to remedy this is to have the flange machined flat again. However most people think they just need a new gasket. If you fit a new gasket on a warped flange it will not last long if at all before it leaks again. Fiat did supplied gaskets at one stage. If you have a straight flange you can use a gasket if you wish but there is not much point IMO. HT sealant works as well or better.

Thanks for the post Steve, but just to clear something up - what's HT sealant? High Tension? High Temperature? And assuming High Temperature, I've always wondered about orange silicone - I remember seeing it used on exhaust parts - is this the sort of thing you mean or do you mean Maniseal (concrete-in-a-tube)?

Cheers,
-Alex

High temperature.

There are so many different brands these days but the "red" silicone gasket maker stuff works great on exhausts.

I have also used maniseal and still do on some joints. Its pretty much out of date now with all the modern silicone out now.

you can get gaskets on ebay, t2 t25 t28 all same flange so do a search and im sure youll find one

Hmmm didn't some manufactures stop using gaskets between exhaust manifold and turbocharger because of the risk of them breaking up after some time

Where do them little bits of gasket go ;) what do they do to the turbo fan blades ...turbos getting noisy... whats that black smoke... :bang:

Louie.
