hi there everyone, have just bought myself a mk1 uno turbo and thought id get in on the forum discusions.i hope my question of which is better doesnt get me shot but i was just curious of what people thought.i know its probably down to personal choice but what are the main pros and cons with each model?.when i get a new project car i get a massive thirst for knowledge and i though you guys could help me.have put a post some where elso on the forum but also where are the best places to get engine parts ie dizzy caps,ht leads ect? please reply and thanks for your time,Dave.:slayer:

i prefer the mk1 boots but the mk2 car, not alot in it really imho,
dizzy caps cost next to nothing, fiat garage prob best place, leads can be got from any motor factors

MK1's are the real badboys, there faster, have better interior, better engine and look better, I've never liked mixing a combination of both the cars as thats just wrong.

Mk2's are too refinded, MK1's are more raw and uncut. rarer too and worth more.

This has already been covered!

https://www.fiatforum.com/uno/78310-whats-best-mk1-mk2-uno-turbo.html?highlight="mk1+mk2+Uno"

Also, I think people either love one or the other, with some liking both.

Personally I think the mk1 is pure and more raw, and I prefer the styling of the mk1. It's more retro and chunky, and the whole car has more of an oldschool appeal about it.

The mk2 looks too modern to me, and is too refined. But it is also probably a better car to drive longer distances.

Both are good cars though, and both are fundamentally the same chassis and same engine with minor differences. The mk2 got a different interior, a bigger engine (with more power), more weight and different styling. The mk2 probably has more sound insulation which adds more weight, but that is also why the mk1 feels more raw.

Plus the mk1 dashboard is soooooooooo funky and unique! The mk2 dashboard looks like any other supermini.

Both models are now rare, so they should all be saved (y)

regurgitate!!! regurgitate!!!!!! mk2 in my opinion, but i only worked for fiat main dealer when both were built, worked on both mk's love them both, but there are more pro's than cons with the later model, mk2 is an EVO!

originally i wanted a standard mk2 but ended up with modded mk1.the car needs work as its like a pond inside (lots of water) and it was just sat in a car park at work being left to the elements.ive never driven an uno turbo but i love retro cars and love the fact that uno turbos are quite rare, also at £400 i couldnt really complain.thinking im starting to feel the mk1 love ha ha (y)

I am a MK2 man but i am after a MK1 as a road car!

Seal it up and check it every 6 months! done! lol

I have had several mk1s and mk2 turbos, and have to say I also prefer the mk1, for same reasons as most other people have said- chunky shape, sportier interior, maybe less refined but that adds to the appeal! mk1 gearbox maybe not quite as strong, but mk2 gearboxes not brilliant either! After the last 5 turbos , I am back with a mint white mk1 running well over 150bhp and loving it!! :)

i prefer the mk2 shape, and with a smoothed boot and the best bit from a saxo - the spoiler :D they look better from the back too. but then, im biased, thats what i had :slayer: the mk1 lump is stronger.

tis true the mk1 looks proper old skool, whereas the mk2 is kinda is more refined (and has a better interior - to whoever said the mk1 had better interior :nerner: )

if i got another, id get a mk1 and fully slag it up!!

BOTH Mk's are awesome!

HI Biz BTW! its krausey! (y)

The mk1 turbo interior looks more distinctive and special, but the mk2 interior is better made and lasts longer. Both are nice but the mk2 interior is too conformist and staid, whereas the mk1 shouts Italian eccentricity and has that bit of extra style. Whacky though it may be, but it is still style!

Saying that, I WILL one day fit the mk2 turbo interior sitting in my loft into my mk1 45S. I'd prefer a mk1 turbo interior, but they are hard to find in good condition and the mk2 interior came up very cheap. Obviously I will be keeping the mk1 dashboard though, with its crazy paddles and illuminated switches  (y)

hi biz,how come you want a mk1 as a road car?

Well i had a MK2 back in 2003 (The one on the right in my sig) but id like a MK1 for a change as my project car is a MK2

I love wankels but not yet :D

Hi Dave,

Welcome to Uno Turbo ownership! :)

Like the others said it doesn't matter a damn which one you have really, they both have a similar appeal!

It comes down to personal reasons: every time I see a Mk2 Uno it reminds me of being in South Africa (where they only have Mk2 Unos) and since that working/holiday trip was a bit of an adventure, that's an interesting thing to remember. I usually think the front of the Mk2 looks more tidy.

However I pushed my Mk1 out of the garage last night and spent a few seconds looking at it, I love the neat simplicity of the style really, I love my 15" wheels, and I have a lot more refinement available in the Stilo so who needs refinement? Mk1s are great!

mk2 only has more power as standard because it runs more boost. but turn the boost up on the mk1 and it becomes faster than the mk2.

lol nicely put (both of u)

I think the mark 2 is a better road going car and the mark 1 has a better engine for tuning. But i love them both. As for the shape i prefer the mark 2 as its a more modern design probably as do most people my age but i appreciate the retro charm of the mark 1 and its this charm which has given it a status that the mark 2 will find hard to match. As for speed well the mark 2 is faster as standard but both are very tuneable its just that the mark 1 engine has a stronger block to begin with.
