well after months of saving and waiting i managed to get my uno turbo from yeovil to my home in gosport.when i bought it it was full of water and a bit of a mess.but as it only cost me £400 and its quite rust free i couldnt complain.the idea at the moment is to strip it out further as it didnt have much interior when i bought it and quater mile race it this year at shakesper county raceway.the problems list with it though is quite long,

no brakes (well not very good)
only dials that work are fuel and boost
idles high
timings out
gear change rough
only has 1 wiper speed
boot wont stay open
window motors are really weedy
grill needs sorting

and just a general tidy then tax and mot.even in its sorry state i took it for a quick blast down my road and i was amazed at the pace :D ,ive driven some fast cars but for a 1.3 the uno is amazing.after ive set it up properly and got it all running standard the modding begins.ive already got a hybrid turbo for it but really want a performance cam and uprated fuel pressure regulator amongst other things.will try and make regular posts and keep it interesting.many thanks,Dave. :slayer:

Well done mate

Remember if you have any probs thats there is a welth of info when it comes to the tricky stuff on these

Does look nice all smoothed over (y)

Cool, is it a real UT or a reshell? The door trims are not UT look like a base model or something like that and doesn't have the arch or sill covers. The seats a Recaro from a Strada Abarth and they are great so that's good.

Have a good look for rust on the floor definately some appearing there. Looks like a bit more work and it'll be tidy.

Great choice of project! (y)

Someone's retrimmed the door cards for that 'clean' look, which is OK. Lots of potential in that bodyshell (looks better than other Mk1s I've seen in England!)

I see what you mean about the engine idling high though!
Pinch off the hose that runs across the front of the cylinder head (from the vertical metal air pipe) to the auxiliary air valve attached next to the thermostat; see if it makes a difference?

Otherwise you might have an air leak, probably in the pipes behind the plenum chamber (brake servo etc.) Or, there's something mechanically wrong with the throttle. Incidentally the idle speed is supposed to be set by the large slot-head screw with 17mm locknut, above the throttle body, but in my car I've ended up with that screw fully-in and the throttle opened slightly - otherwise I find the engine dies when returning quickly to idle speed (e.g. foot-on-clutch). Sorry this is a bit brief... Hope this makes sense

I find that most times it's not the window motors - more usually the switches that cause trouble. The solid-silver contacts respond well to careful sanding with wet-and-dry sandpaper (wet), about 400-600 grit. I seemed to have ongoing cleaning requirements after using silicone grease, so it's probably best to use graphite grease or something electrically-rated. It's important to use some type of grease, since otherwise the white plastic plungers on the switch rocker wear down and the switch becomes unreliable again.

As for lubricating the window motor, I find if I fish out the white pipe from the door with the window up, then operate the window and spray various solutions into this pipe (such as WD40 followed by white lithium spray grease) the window goes a little faster once the lubricant works its way in. Also the black-fur channels need to be washed with soapy water and sprayed with silicone spray.

Anyway have fun and I hope you find the project satisfying. :)

thanks for all the help and sugestions so far.dont think the car is a re-shell,my mate pointed out to me that a big part of the floor pan had been replaced and the sills were new so i think at some point the car was taken into a shop sorted and resprayed.ive looked over the car and theres not alot of rust at all considering its an old uno.next step is to sort the dials out,the oil temp, oil pressure, engine temp and rev counter arnt working so think it may be some bad wiring or a bad earth.hate electronics so wish me luck.cheers all,Dave. :slayer:

well the project is a bit further on now.managed to sort out the massive leaks in the cabin.re directed the water straight from the sills via some tubing through the floor.works a treat.also when bleeding the brakes today i noticed that the car is fitted with apex sport suspention and lowering springs. it also has braided hoses, grooved and drilled discs and green stuff pads on the front.i know it was in a sorry state when i bought it but it did only cost me £400 and i think its worth every penny.ive included some more pics so feel free to comment or leave more posts.cheers,Dave. :slayer:
