will they fit an MK2? and is the carper in a 5 door the same as the 3 door?

reason asking as the interior in the 70 is so ugly it makes me want to throw up. the floor carpet is brown cord material.. same as the seats and door cards!!! :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck:

so.. im gonna do the interior in red and replaceing the carpet either means standard grey or turbo red :D and the turbo seats are black and red too which is nice :D

any ideas?

carpet must do really.. what differences can there be? the car is exactly the same shape interior wise :p

I *think* the carpets for a 3 door and a 5 door must be very similar, if not identical. The only difference I can think of would be the fact that the 5 door has sills for the rear doors, whereas obviously the 3 door doesn't. Other than that there is no other reason why it shouldn't fit. And I can't see why a mk1 carpet wouldn't fit a mk2 either, and as Louie says, it should fit the other way round too.

As you're coming along to the Ace Cafe, you'll have a good chance to have a look at 3 door models/ turbos and compare with your 5 door SX. Bring the tape measure!

Seats will swap on all models

Carpets will swap ok . Its possible it will be slightly different around the doors

the interior on the 70sx is a thing of simple beauty! tough, comfy and will last a lot longer than a tub interior, i must admit it suited the 70's i used to drive......might have to look on ebay for another to use as a runabout...oh the nostalgia!

Right, I have some answers for you about the carpet swap. :)

5-dr carpet into a 3-dr, no problem, James (my friend, on here sometimes) has done this. The main parts of the carpet are in the same places, and the discrepancies (if any) are covered by the carpet holders. 3-dr into a 5-dr, should be the same - the seatbelt reel covers will hide any discrepancies again...

Mk2 <-> Mk1, more of a problem. The gear lever on the Mk2 is fractionally further forward, not a huge difficulty but be aware that it won't quite sit right. The Mk2 has a footrest, which is actually a huge panel covering up the steering column and pedal pivots. This panel attaches to a steel bracket fastened to the floor. The carpet has a large rectangular cutout for this bracket - easy to add to a Mk1 carpet, not easy to conceal if putting the Mk2 carpet into the Mk1. You can install the footrest - with some holes drilled in the floor, but the top of the panel will be rather flimsy because there aren't the supports for it that there are on the Mk2 steering column.

Strangely, I find myself agreeing with Turboned on this issue :)
The 70SX interior is top-of-the-range anyway, I don't think the Mk2 Turbo interior is any better, and strictly speaking the Mk1 Turbo interior is hopeless from a durability point of view. The seats fall to bits, the door cards wear through or fade, the headlining sags (and won't fit a 5-dr anyway), leaving the only bit that's any good being the red carpet.

If you can't stand the brown colours (and on that, I think I can agree), maybe you should find a white Uno 70SX and get the (probably blue) interior from that. But it's a lot of work for what is really only your runabout vehicle, and if the seats are not split/ripped and the carpet has no holes, I'm sure people will see it as tidy and well-kept (by you, of course) even if they don't like the colours either (be thankful it's not that early-80s tan-beige...)
