Styling MK1 bumper on MK2

Styling MK1 bumper on MK2

Might not fit due to the different wing without some hacking although there was a car on ebay where the person made it fit, annoyingly I can't find the link now.

If you decide against it I woudl be interested for my Mk1. I have a turbo bumper but isn't in great condition.

I think Turboned is getting confused with the rear bumper?

Frosty knows all about the front bumper - it doesn't fit very easily! This is because the Mk2 bumper meets the front wings further 'up' - take a close look at the Mk2 and you'll see that the vertical part of the front wing (meeting the indicator) is not as tall as the corresponding band on the doors and rear quarters. This mismatch is disguised by the standard Mk2 rubbing strips which sit on top of the fold line (doors & rear quarters) thus making those parts appear less tall. Look closely at Dunc's signature pic to see what I mean... ;) Turboned's signature conveniently shows a Mk1!

So, getting back to the front, Mk2 vs. Mk1, it's not the headlights that are lower - it's the bumper that is higher! Put a Mk1 bumper on and I don't think it will reach far enough down to the ground. Or there will be a gap under the headlights and grille...

I looked into all this when I had a Mk2 at my disposal and planned to facelift my Mk1 Turbo. The Mk2 restyling is clever smoke-and-mirrors to get the slimmer look, and I chose to stick with the cleaner, consistent styling of the Mk1. :)

I dont think it fits perfectly against the mark 2 wings, i had the same problem with my hormann front bumper which is off a mark 1, its too square and doesnt sit in the grooves of the mark 2 wings, to get it on i'd have to cut it down the middle and make it smaller which i cant be asked to do so i just put a mark 2 turbo bumper on again. And yeh Alex is spot on, if you fit a mark 1 bumper on you will have a big gap between the bumper and healights/grille as the mark 1 bumper appears to sit lower than the mark 2 bumper to accomodate the taller mark 1 lights and grille.
As for the fogs they are completely different mate. Mark 2 fogs are still available to buy new whereas mark 1 fogs are nearly impossible to get hold of these days.

You must have heard me typing your name, F R O $ T Y... ;)

I reckon that a better approach is to modify a Mk2 bumper if desired... not sure how the Mk1 bumper was better? Generally, fibreglass-reinforced filler seems to work with bumpers OK, particularly if some holes are drilled first. Like all filler work, results are proportional to time and effort (and experience!)

That's why we're ALL here - so we can all contribute parts of the solution, everyone makes mistakes from time to time or has knowledge gaps. Some mad people (i.e. F R O $ T Y) actually go the whole way and try to do these Frankenstein Uno-things...
