We could set up a sort of register of who is looking for what, where they live, and if they are prepared to share it where appropriate. For example, I live near Stockport. I can't afford or really justify a brand new decent mig welder right now - plus the fact I've never even held a welding machine before let alone welded anything. But, if I could find somebody in the area that we all "know" and trust, I wouldn't mind buying a share in some welding kit. and learning. After all, not many of us are going to be welding all the time are we?
On the other hand, I have just bought a Panda so that last statement may be b*llocks!

I think there are buildings filled with tools and experienced people to operate them, small tokens can be exchanged for their knowledge and services.

Yeah it is a good idea. We're a bit spread out to apply it just amongst yourselves but if you could find people in your area with a similar interest in cars, regardless of what car they own, I think it could work well.

Believe me if I lived a couple of hundred miles further south you would already have made ny acquaintance by now!
It would be good to be able to set something like this up, but you are right - the Classic Panda ownership is well spread across the country so just looking for other car enthusiasts is probably a better starting point

Only problem being someone will want something urgently when it has been booked out elsewhere.
Better to save up for your own kit - even secondhand.

Be very wary of used MIG welders - unless it's something decent like a Cebora it probably won't work well.

What do you need to look out for with second hand kit?
It would be a bit tricky to try out first. Can you imagine:
"I've come about the MIG welder you've got for sale. Is it OK if I have a trial run with it to make sure it works?
Now, let's see, what can I weld?
O'h dear - I appear to have welded your gate shut!"
I can see I am going to have to save up for something new, and then find a teacher!

new isnt always good, some will make you think you are crap at welding and give up, others power wont go low enough for car stuff. i got a well used little clarke home mig years and years ago its just about still useable.

when i went to night school to do city n guild it was still mostly gas and stick welding, bloke said that they will cover migs near the end, it was a 4 year course i didnt finish it, but learning the other stuff and then aplying same princible to mig has got me by.

mines lost the clear plastic cover and the red bit that holds the cables, they have been cable tied ever sine i've had it.
its worth getting if it dont go above 20 quid and you live near
