Bought our Lunar mo-home in Feb of this year(Fiat 2.8jtd 2001 X230). Long story short, the box is... quotes the recon people "the worst condition and incompetently repaired of anything we have seen before" , so bang goes a rather large lump of our bank account.

As expensive as this is going to be - and we do at least get what is effectively a new gearbox after the rebuild- would anything else fit this engine with reasonable modifications ?

I would have thought the 02-06 MLGU box would fit straight on

Even if it mates up to the block ok its all the hydraulics that go with it ie clutch pedal. I think it would need a new column shift assembly as well. Im afraid rebuilding and sticking with this may be the only realistic option to be honest.

I don't know about england but I could get a good box plus selector and cables around Ireland for about €350. I'd rather fit a good used box myself than a rebuilt 'worst box we've ever seen' (if you can even believe that) for 5-10 times the price.

If you wanted to stick with cable the clutch fork bushes and rod are the same so your cable fork should fit and I don't think they moved the mounting points for the brackets so the cable bracket would probably fit on instead of the hydraulic one.

Changing the column isn't a big deal - people have even fitted them to the MK1 ducato over on the talbot owners club. Just get the whole lot cables, gromets, brackets and all from a scrapyard as far as i know the four bolts in the dash are the same.

Of course I would take lots of measurements before parting with cash.
