Hi all,
Briefly...
I've bought an Uno 60S, 1992 Mk2. It is de-registered, meaning a $560 charge (about 200 pounds) to get it back on the road (new plates and compliance check). That's more than I paid for it, so I don't think it is worth putting back on the road... instead, I plan to use the front end to facelift my Mk1 Turbo (!) Both cars are white, so that should reduce the painting necessary.
I've always liked the look of the Mk2. So, I want to bolt on the front wings, bonnet, headlights, grille, etc. from the Mk2. Does anyone know of any problems with this? E.g. does the later-style wiper motor etc. fit into the Mk1? Can I still use the Mk1 Turbo bumper with the Mk2 headlights etc.?
Of course this does raise questions of originality, etc. But there are very few Mk2 Turbos around here, and besides this is *my* Uno, so I want it 'my' way. It's not particularly good anyway - the left door, wing, and pillar are all a little 'tweaked' plus there's some rust in the rear panel and a few repairs done here and there, so it's not like it's a 'mint' Mk1 Turbo or anything...
Meanwhile, I also plan to take a rear door from the Mk2 and graft it onto a five-door Mk1. Is the door internal metalwork the same? What about 'upgrading' the other doors to Mk2 trim?
And finally, one more Mk2 Uno question. The rear tailgate lock looks a bit like the Tipo design. Can it be locked/unlocked with the central locking? I realise that the 60S won't have central locking, but I just wondered if the capability is there for it to be added... the Mk1 Uno tailgate lock can't be locked/unlocked without the key. The Tipo DGT, in case you're wondering, has a fairly standard lock-motor inside the tailgate that pushes/pulls a lever on the lock barrel.
If the tailgate can be locked/unlocked electrically, it might be worth losing my lovely Mk1 Turbo plastic tailgate (with rear spoiler) for...
Thanks,
-Alex
