Marea Problems?

Hi, I've just bought a 14 mnth old Marea 115 ELX. Bought it because the car looks great!
First impression is that there is a lot of wheel noise, I first thought it was a wheel bearing but a mechanic said it was tyre noise (Dunlop SP Sport 220) Is this normal? There is also a grinding sound when I brake softly - are these connected?
Any comments would be appreciated - still love the car though!

grinding noises

At the risk of sounding obvious, are you sure your front brake pads aren't worn out? I'm not a Marea driver but grinding noises don't sound right. I'd go to your local Kwikfit or whatever and get them to do a free brake check.

Re: Grinding Noises

Brian, Thanks for the reply - first thing I did was remove the front wheels and look at the pads. The pads and discs look OK. Arnold Clark sold me the car and they said that the pads were new and the noise was due to them 'running in'. They also told me the wheel noise was the tyres and was 'normal'. I'm a bit dubious as they have only given me a months warranty which is nearly expired.

I have exactly the same problem 97 (HLX), when I break softly I get a crunching/grinding noise. I have had the breaks looked at and "Kwik shaft" seem to think they are ok.

Typically though, when I took the car in there wasn't a sound to be heard!!!

If anyone knows what else this problem could be please respond!!!

Cheers

noises off

Well at least you can relax if you've checked the brakes out. I've never driven a Marea but that might be the best thing to do. Go in as a prospective buyer and test drive another one. If they all make that noise then you can sleep at night. If not then take it back armed with your knowledge and experience. Good luck!
