My Marea has just failed on the Brake Pipes and the hand break being at 16% diference between the left and right rear wheels. instead f the alowed 15%.

Anyway I got under the car and looked at the break pipes the MOT guy said it had failed on and guess what the whole pipe is Plastic coated and looks like new. and the connectors at the end are clean and rust free. there is no weeping and not a sign of corrosion.

I cant beleve it. he also tryed to fail it because the side lights were not working. LOL he had the ignition off and when i said you do realise none of the lights will work with the ignition off he looked a little peved.

I know the hand Brake is easy but i dont know if i should replace the Brake pipes. even though there like new. I maight pop round and ask him which bits he wants done. He told me the front to rear before it goes over the tank and just after it comes out of the engine area.

Nope i had it up on the four 1 foot high ramps and slid under and looked but no corrosion and definatly nothing loose thats the first thing i check when i buy them. I think he may have thought me saying I can do almost anything at home he wouldnt have thought I had a full brake pipe kit and bleeding kit. you would have thought he would have at least had a quick look in the boot.

And hoped he could make some profit out of me

There is a formal complaints procedure, I used it once when they failed a car for insecure seat belts and they had undone the belt adjusters. I put them back together, got it passed somewhere else and made a complaint to the Test Inspectorate. Sure you can find this on the UK gov site these days.
My Xreg just passed no worries, and our daughters weekend, also X reg that they got last year on E bay for not a lot also sailed through this year.

Think I have found a little rust on the pipes looking again today its where the pipes head round a bend ready to go to the side of the fuel tank. but i cant see it as its covered by plastic covers and the exhaust and handbrake mounts need to come off before i can get to it.

Pain in the arse bit to get too as well and there are no straight bits to start a new connector untill it hits the rubber hose bit. which goes round the back of the fuel tank so looks like the new exhaust i just fitted has to come off. and the hand brake again and the fuel tank maybe.

AHHHHHHH

bought a marea cat3 insurance write off afew months back, worked on it for ages took it to my local garage for an mot failed misserably.
brake pipes we're one of the things, cleaned them with a wire brush and copper slipped them and they we're fine. as for mot i'll tell you the best place to take it your local council workshop, by law they have to test cars aswell and because they dont do repairs they arnt looking to fail it on stuff that isn't wrong.
neadless to say i took mine to 1 it sailed straight through, no recomendations for work to do and i'm taking it back every year from now on. if you click on the following link and go to motoring it tells you all about taking cars for mot and tips on saving money. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/

click on the link, look under i think its motoring and they are all listed on there

thats funny mine failed frount to back turned out to be the pipes that join the pipes running under the floor of car the ones that connect directly to the compensator one runs over the feul tank but if you drop rear box and take off exaust heat sheald you can just replace it if you have long arms

Mine could have been rerouted the problem was mine go from left to right across the top of the fuel tank and then round the back of the suspension arm and having just fitted a new exhaust and using sealent to make a good connection I couldnt get the exhaust off I had to just drop it then fddle getting all the plastic trims that cover the connections off and the handbrake so the exhaust would drop god was it a pain on my own. anyway. got it done. all copper alloy pipes and no corosion anywhere.(y)
