Hoping to pick up the Marea on Wednesday from the dealer, but when I test drove it I seem to remember the key looking different from the one on the Brava, in that it did not have any electronics or buttons. Were any of the Mareas not fitted with R/cl and alarms?

Depends on the spec, only the top level ones were just like the Bravo/a

'boring' and '2.0 20v' dont go in the same sentence together 
Dont know if ELX should of had it, does the middle of the dash have a red led, could be dead, or a hole wher one shouold be, or on the courtesy light controls 2 sensors? If so then you should have an alarm, if not then no alarm.
In fact was in an ELX today and it had no alarm, as no sensors. Standard alarm anyhow.
Not fitted on my 1.8 ELX. It is a nice trim level though and we have been very hppy with ours
