Marea external temp reading

Quick question to Marea owners , mates bought his missus a 1.8ELX and according to manula you press a button on the centre dash and it should give you an outside temp reading where the odometer is but it does'nt appear to do anything . There is an external sensor on the drivers mirror so it seems to have all the bits .

First it has to have air con whit climate control, the sensor is in the wing mirror - the one on witch the conector under the plastic cover in the car has more wires. If the temp isnt shoving and there isnt any other thing displayed when you start the car, the svitch on the dash is prob. focked.
Take it out and check
