hi guys gals

just thought id post a new thread with a little advise

if you own a marea hlx weekend 2ltr 20v and the exhaust is blowing no matter how much make sure you get the manifold checked first and dont make the same mistake i did

after taking the car to about 7 garages finally got one to agree to work on it the fault was diagnosed by 4 garages as being the gasket so off i went to partco and bought one for £14 not bad i thought but then got the quotes rangeing between £150 and £250 anyway decided it needed doing after the car being in the garage all day went to pick it up only to find that they have stripped and replaced gasket put everything back together and no difference
theres an invisible crack in the manifold hmmm we will see tomoz when i take it to bits anyway the garage cant supply a new manifold which ive not had chance to price up yet but they want another £150 to restrip and replace manifold that i supply absolutly p****** off £150 to be told your exhaust is blowing

so words of wisdom if you can get your hands on a replacement manifold and there not 2 expensive may be worth getting it replaced at the same time

if your interested how to replace your self let me know and i will give you more info as i made sure i got all the info from the garage on how to do it and it doesnt sound that bigger job just time consuming

cheers guys feel much better now after getting that off my chest

hi mate if you take off the plastic intake cover on top of the radiator you will get a better view mines leaking right at the junction area apprantly this is where they go as its where all the movement is im going to get a repair bandage and fill with exhaust paste to see if that works as a temp fix will let you know

be aware that garages say they have to take radiator, aircon and a few hoses have to come out yes to the aircon but i think it can be done without taking out the rad

if your has gone on the straight part i found it by running my fingers along the pipes (not touching it obviously) if they have yours will probably be easier to fix with exhaust bandage let me know

cheers mate perm fix will cost you at least £150 labour though

ps i assume you mean the crack on the exhaust as i find my other crack years ago lol

No Probs Mate If You Have The Manifold Off Check From Inside The End That Connects To The Downpipe As I Believe They Weld them Internally If You Have Access To Welding Gear I Would Just Run Some Flux Round All The Joints Before Re-assembling
Cheers Let Me Know How You Go On
