Seen one of these in a nearby Fiat dealers, a T reg(2000) with low milage and good condition. Thinking of trading in my Brava ELX for it and paying the difference. What are the main failure points on these, do they eat injectors like the 1600 engines? I think this is the 155Bhp Engine BTW.

Injectors not a problem, only the 1.6 suffers this. If it is a 155 then it will be the VIS (Variable Intake system) engine. This engine has an electronic throttle system as apposed to a cable system.

The main problem is the cambelt. Recommended interval change is 72,000 miles but advisable much sooner. Make sure it has been done as well as the aux belts and tensioners. Specialists charge around £300-400 and remove it with the engine still in situ' Fiat want £1000+ and remove the engine

The only issues are that being a large engine components are a tad harder to work on due to space but the cambelt is the only real problem followed by the clutch. Both due to access, although I changed my own clutch relatively easily on a 20v.

Other failure points are shared with all engine models, slave cylinder failure etc.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the replies. Seeing as the car is IMHO very overpriced (£800 above book) unless the belt has been changed or they will change it before sale I am going to walk away! I like the idea of the car, but cannot justify another bill on top of the trade in, whatever that is!:worship:

Think you have the right idea. You have obviously done your homework. value your own car and when talking trade in figures mark yours up by the same amount as what they have their sale car.

Well, went there today, wished I didn't!THe car has a FSH and has had the belts changed, and the salesman offered £500 p/x for my clapped out Brava (clutch going and exhaust blowing). This makes it a very attractive offer, and I am wondering about the practicalities of the car. Anyone had one converted to l:D pg?

Well, will hopefully be picking up the car next week, the dealer is changing a suspension link, sorting out a dodgy rev counter and giving the car a service and MOT. Although the car is slightly overpriced the dealer is very good and the service is first class so I don't mind paying a bit extra! Now to sort out the insurance, been quoted more than 480 quid:eek:

Well, 480 is a hell of a jump for me from the Brava 1.6 at 230:p But as one cheeky bastard sales person put it "I don't suppose insurance is a problem at your age?".

Steve, 46, three points max no claims!

less than £300 fully comp. for me and the wife both 33 and max no claims no points.

Well, this has all gone pear shaped! Was supposed to be picking up the car tomorrow, and phoned to check all was well. There were two faults with the car when I drove it, a suspension link gone and a intermittent fault on the rev counter and the trip meter not working. They have fixed the suspension link but have said that the whole dash needs replaceing at a cost of 300 quid plus VAT and they are not prepared to do it! I have said that either they do, or I want my deposit (£100) back and I will go elsewhere! Don't supppose anyones got a Marea dash sat doing nothing?:bang:

i do actually, however its more likely to be a loose connection on the back of the unit, i beleive everyone else says hitting the top of the dash will make it work again :p

This is getting really annoying now! The garage have agreed to repair the fault, saying it needs a new dashboard. They now say that Fiat don't have stock in the UK, and thay cannot get a s/hand one! Spoke to Fiat but without a VIN they cannot say if they have spares! Anyone got one? This is what it looks like:

I've got reg number and chassis number, it's amazing what you can find on the interweb thingy! Fiat do not have stock anywhere in the UK, and it is on backorder til the 15th. Within ten minutes of coming off the phone to the gagrage I had tracked down one at a breakers who would send it for 50 quid. Having emailed the gagrage I waited to see if they would phone me back to let me know they had ordered it. They haven't yet, so I think they don't really want to fix this, just get rid of the car. It's no skin of my nose, but sooner or later they will either have to sell the car at a silly price or bite the bullet and fix it.BTW if anyone has a instrument consol, part number 46550048 I will offer cash for it!(y)

I'm fairly sure there's a fix for this on BOO. Have a look then tell the garage to knock £300 off the price and fix it yourself. ;)
