Marea Auto intermittent starter

I have a Marea 1.6 Auto-1998 that has become an intermittent starter. There are no engine management fault lights displayed. The local garage says they can't, for whatever reason, access the diagnostic information. The engine turns but won't ignite. Occassional there is a little cough. When I checked the plugs they were dry. If i try the next day it starts first time. Sensor? Electrics? Help please.

It could be anyone of a number of things, unfortunately.

The best solution 9but not the cheapest) is to get it pugged into a Fiat diagnostice - a bit difficult when it wont start to get you there!!!!

Could be one of a HUGE list of things.

The 2 that spring to mind are the cam and crank sensors. Neither are cheap to replace.

And if anyone suggests the lambda I will smack them

Is there anyway I can check these sensors. It feels as though the car is being denied fuel. Not being able to access the diagnostic, could this be related or a red herring?

Not really. Maybe your ECU is faulty if they cannot get to the diags?

Get the fuel pump checked, as I've been told they are one of the weakness on the Marea.

p.s. its in the fuel tank itself....

Check/change your fuel filter..it is generic problem for Marea
