Ive owned ( and own ) quite a few Fiats in my time and only the Cinq SX I had ever had any startup clatter. I am experiencing a problem with my Marea ( late 2001 ELX auto ) in that when it is started in conditions where there has been a frost or it was reasonably cold it makes a significant amount of noise.
There is the normal cam clatter ( so what ) but this sounds like when the HT leads went on my Spider. If that was the problem then the near misfire noise would be replicated as the engine is gunned or driven away ( my partners late Polo auto which we got rid of had a misfire problem that was a pig in an auto - you cant slip the clutch on the way to the garage so you bounce along like zebedee on speed ) but it quietens down on acceleration and then returns on tickover. After a few miles the noise goes altogether.
