Tuning main and rod bearings

I'm rebuilding my 1977 1290cc engine from the ground up, and seem to have misplaced the old bearings...

Is there any way to find out just by looking at the rods or crankshaft to find out what size I need to purchase? Or would I just have to find someone with a micrometer to measure it?

You will need it measured. Take the crank to someone. Digital callipers are pretty cheap these days though.
