I have a 1.6 sx brava 1997 & it is only doing 20mpg is this the norm 4 this motor?

I'm mainly doing A roads and getting about 40mpg out of my 1.8

My 1999 1.6SX gets about 32-38 M.P.G. when I drive it or about 20-26 M.P.G. when me bird drives it...

I tried driving it economically and got about 38, then drove it normally (medium-hard) and got 32 so now I drive it normally all the time.

Me bird gets stuck in traffic every day for 20-40 mins, hence the 20-26 figure...

Got the trip computer to read 3 on the test drive in the XJR! And that was on a warm day and it had been running for a while. I will wait and see what it does on choke on a winters days....aaaggggghhhhh

Might have to tow the HGT as a bowser otherwise I wont reach the garage!

thanks 4 the info all of ui think i'll give it back 2 the garage 2 tune it again it was tuned by fiat specialist 2 mnths ago by www.carstins.co.uk bcos injector light stayed on & it was only firing on 3 cyls. i had it repaird under waranty from the garage i had the car from www.glenavoncars.co.uk in b'ham & carstins is in coventry.
