07 1.9 went in for a M.O.T. today. The two cars ahead of me failed on C.O. emissions, and I thought o.m.g. here we go !!! With an engine that sounds like a tractor I thought I am doomed. But the little darling passed with flying colours.

So what is the remedy for a car that fails the M.o.T. on emissions ?? The scrap yard !!!

Cataclean works. Have heard of people using half a bottle of Millers diesel additive too. I have used a Fuchs diesel clean product on older buses, and can confirm a real drop on the smoke test, enough to turn a fail into a pass.

Or, come to N.Ireland for your diesel M.O.T., no diesel smoke test for cars here, as yet, though you can ask for one to be carried out if you so desire.

we normally go down the fuel treatment route and give the car a good long run in the low gears with high revs to give everything a nice clean out.
on the older cars you would be looking at valve clearance etc..
and depending on what gas the car fails on, replacement of the catalytic converter may be needed
