Have fully rebuilt a 1.2 spi engine and put it in my cinq sporting. Runs perfectly but when on idle there is a strange low pitch squeak kind of sound that seems to be coming from the cam belt side.

Everything is brand new, I have checked the tension on the belt and sprayed water on the belt whilst running to see if that made any difference and it did not.
I also disconnected the alternator just to prove that wasn't the culprit.

If I raise the revs even the tiniest amount the sound stops!?

Car drives and performs brilliantly, really happy with the upgrade, just a bit disappointed about this noise as it makes the car sound like a bit of a banger, especially after the amount of time and money I have put into it :(

Has anyone got any ideas as I'm out of them?

all appear to be. they cant really not be tbh as they are fixed positions.

belt looks to run fine position wise on the pulleys.

Update.

Took cam cover off and turned the engine over. Oil squirters are putting plenty of oil out, so that seems fine.

Sprayed some wd40 in the water pump drain hole, made no difference.

Only does it when up to temp, otherwise it sounds perfect.

Got a second opinion and waterpump seems to be the consensus.

Took it off and doesn't appear to be any issues but have another new one coming next week so will see if that sorts it.
If not I will just have to live with it as I can't find anything else it could be!

still the same with a different water pump :(

going to stick it all back together and live with it unless it get worse as i cant find any problems!
