Hi. I've had my new Panda for 2 weeks but the 12 accessory socket (in the centre console) is way too loose. None of the 12v plugs (the cig lighter type) I have will stay tightly in place. Is this normal for Fiat or do I have a dodgy socket?

Despite there being apparently a standard for these things, there are two sizes, but they are very close. Fiat have always used the larger size, so this has been a problem for many years.

Some accessory plugs have an adaptor sleeve, but don't know where they may be available separately. Might try a wrap of insulation tape around the top of the plug, just to keep it snug in the socket. Don't cover any connections.

Yes there is the Japanese style and the ""European"" style

yet only fiats asaik are affected!
They use a 1 or 2mm larger socket

Which is a PITA! I end up using a Ring Automative Splitter - There plugs have a collar that can be removed, but that never works loose tbh, its better having 2 plugs as well!

Plus most come with a basic volt-meter on them, great for telling when something might be wrong...

So that means Fiat use the "European" style, but most other manufacturers have adopted the smaller Japanese one.

Should we start a poll as to who we think have this decision right?

because there not stupid and realise where most of the electronics come from ;) and when they dont come from that place - most other manufactures click onto what people want....

And tbh 99% of them fit in the japanese style due to sprung contacts, except with fiat they cant Spring out enough....

Only way around it so far is to have a Ring Automative Splitter as that uses a special clip that removes the excess movement and keeps it put - but yet to find them seperratly on there own!
