Hello new to the forum, I currently have a mazda 3 sport, but more commuting, and petrol prices are killing me so I need to go diesel.

I have been looking around on the net and I like the look of these cars.

I have up to 6k to spend
What kind of age and millage would I be looking to get with that budget. I have seen prices and millage varying hugely on the net.

What options are good to have?
Do they have climate control? is it an option?
Do they have aircon as standard?
Electric mirrors? electronic folding mirrors?
Was leather and option?

Now on the fun stuff
What realistic MPG are you getting out of the 130's they quote 50MPG combined, do you actually get that?

Remaps, what gains would i look to get on standard hardware and internals? and what does the mpg drop too?

Lastly what should I look out for when buying one of these? Problem areas?

Does anyone have one for sale? Im based near gatwick.

Sorry for the long list but thanks in advance for any answers, if this is in the wrong section sorry!

Climate was an option.

Air Con standard.

Electric mirrors, no folding electric though.

Realisticly MPG depends, in town expect around 37-40. Motorways 42-50. Im at 38mpg at the moment, mostly motorways but its been cold which effects economy alot.

getting 33mpg at the minute, its never EVER seen 50mpg since it was brand new.

ouch thats alot less than I was hoping but I need a honest answer so thanks :)

I just ordered a nearly new one for £6.7k 58 plate, 15k on the clock. There is another one I know listed for £7k 07 plate with 11k on clock...

For £6k you can get 07-57 plate quite easily with 20-30k on clock. Cheaper than £6k will get you 06 plates 40-50k on clock.

Leather was an option, infact I seen a 06 plate with leather with 46k on the clock for £5500. Hope this helps.

Just a thought... if you after diesel, can look for the 1.6 Multijet, there is a few for sale but they are hard to come by but they get better MPG then the 1.9. The 1.6 also has more torque yes they do according to offical figure but they are much dearer the cheapest one I seen is £8k but 5 door..

That does help would really like one with climate control and Ipod if this is possible, If anyone can let me know of any for sale around 75miles of the gatwick airport area that would be great

33mpg!...someone has a heavy (ish) right foot;)

Have you considered the 1.3MJ ?

I need speed too, Im used to a 2.0 petrol 0-60 8.5 and i dont want to loose the power just have a bit more economy. This is nearly as quick and will be good with a remap perhaps ;)

Have a look on the Fiat.co.uk and Arnold Clark you might find some pointers and leads to find yourself one... I know how it feels for down powering... as I used to have the Skyline then down to a Starlet Non Turbo... finally getting a bit fed up being bullied and need better economy so went for the 1.9 Sporting :)

lots of power and high economy (and insurance/road tax/running costs) if there is such a car let us all know;)

how much road tax are you paying on the mazda?

£235 when i come to renew after christmas :(

You will save on the 1.9 Sporting on tax.... 07 or before is £155 a year and up to a point think late 07 or early 08 they managed to get the tax for £125 on the 1.9 sporting.

Mondeo Mk3, 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds & never goes under 45mpg, tax £85/6 month however the GP 1.3 isn't that bad and returns 55+mpg. Driving smaller engined cars can be as much fun and speed limit is 70mph after all (we've not had a speed limit debate for awhile:devil:)

If you can afford a 1.6 JTD go for it.

1.9JTD engine is really good, motorway driving will give you anything between 42mpg (at 90mph), 45-48 (at 80mph), and low 50s at 70mph. In town you'll struggle to hit 40mpg though, 32-25mpg is the standard fayre. The engine is hugely tunable, many people on the forum get anything between 165-190 bhp and over 300lb/ft of torque.

If you enjoy using all the torque often, budget £140-£250 for front tyres every 10-12k miles. Driving at a steady speed will double the life of your tyres though.

Leather was an optional extra but makes the car a four-seater, if that matters to you.

Look around for the optional skydome (sunroof), it really brightens up the interior of the car. If I were you I would avoid exotica red, tends to fade over the years especially the plastic parts (door handles, bumpers), like all red cars really, so nothing new here...

Check the bonnet for stonechips, again, like most modern cars the paint work in the bonnet is rather thin and motorway driving will result on loads of stonechips on the bonnet... I can certainly vouch for that after 72k mainly M4 miles.

If you have any other questions do not hesitate to ask fellow members of this forum, they really are an excellent source of sorting problems out and in my case they have helped me massively:worship:

33 MPG, I must admit in my 4 and a half years and 101000 miles of owning one I didn't manage to get that low,so congratulations lol,
I averaged around 39.6 round town and acheived 63.5 on a run once, but mainly around 55mpg on a run.
Just be aware,on the 1.9 ,servicing costs can be high ( varies with different garages) and parts can be very very expensive.

I'm sure T and his collegues are very good at customer service, but some dealers are attrocious.Thats my opnion, others may have dfferent experiences.
