Hi all!

yesterday, while checking out the engine on my tempra, I found out that a belt right besides the timing belt was broken. the mechanic said it was a belt which reduces engine vibration, and since you cannot find that belt over here in Colombia, many tempras here get along without it, because it suppossedly doesn't perform any vital function.

my question is, where can I find this belt, and how is it called?

BTW, The tempra is a '94 2.0 i.e.

any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Never heard of a belt to reduce the engine vibration ?.
All the Tempra's I've owned have had two belts in this area but they are for the water pump and the power steering.

Can you get a photo ? that would help to identify.

Its called an anti rotation balance shaft belt or its unofficial title as a Lanchester belt after the man who invented it.
All reverse 2.0 ltr engines were fitted with this belt that sits inside the timing belt. You can lock the shafts and run without it but the engine will be rougher.
You can get the belt from http://www.shop4parts.co.uk/
They will post worldwide. Iam sure your local Fiat Dealer will stock this belt though.

You learn something everyday - and that was mine.

Never heard of a "Lanchester" belt, time to do some Googling, many thanks sumplug

Thx a lot sumplug!, I will ask the local dealer about it, but I'm not sure if they have some in stock, because the fiat dealership has changed hands a lot of times over here.

thanks again!! :D
