Hello all and a Happy New Year. I bring greetings from the Multipla section! (y)

Just a quickie. Does anyone know the loadbed length of the old Fiorino van/wheelchair access vehicle?

I'm trying to find a small van long enough to put an air bed, or camp bed in the back of, for overnight stays.

Obviously I need about six foot from the inside of the rear doors to the back of the seats. Not sure the Fiorino is gonna do it but I thought I'd ask.

And in case you're wondering, no, the blasted Multipla falls well short on this one. Fiat missed a trick there. It's almost as wide as it is long, however......:bang:

I've just measured my T-reg panel van and the length of the load bay from inside with the doors shut is 5'10" long... BUT before you despair my van actually has the factory fitted steel bulkhead fitted which juts out a good few inches so if you removed the bulkhead (it just unbolts) you would easily clear 6 feet. The wheelchair conversions do not have the bulkhead so you would be fine in that respect, however the floors are not flat as they accommodate the fold up ramps so you would have to make your own false floor out of a large lump of plywood or similar.
 
Aha! Thanks for your replies so far. This gives me food for thought. I was thinking about a Scudo but a Fiorino might be something different to convert in to a day van/mini-camper. I'm sure it has been done before but I can't find any details on the interweb net thing of any conversions.

Will keep an eye out for one and go and have a look and a measure myself.

Ha ha, there brilliant! A little bit more than I had in mind though, lol.

I just want something to simply modify, perhaps put a camp bed in the back, a camping chair, a camping table and have a decent leisure battery. Not even thinking about units or sink or anything, just a good sized floor space.

I've 'wild camped' in the Multipla a few times and I have found that a simple single ring burner, and a heavy duty 12v supply for ancilliaries is more than adequate. I use a 12v kettle, and charge my phone and my laptop. For a few days this is more than adequate.

The problem with the Multipla is that although it has a good width, the load length is well under six foot and I've either slept across the width (possible,) or on a fully reclined seat which although more than adequate in length is rather lumpy and uncomfortable.

Just toying with a cheap and simple (Fiat of course) conversion. And the Fiorino is a possibility. Keep your ideas coming!
 
1800 mm long, but, this is floor length, I have a steel bulkhead in mine also, and this angles upwards into the load area slightly.
its a '98 1.7TD if that makes any difference.
 
Cheers Albert, looks like it's a possibility. Just need to find a half decent one near me to go and view now......
 
no worries, and, if I remember correctly its about 1450 at the widest point,
Im almost 6' tall and can sit upright in the rear quite easily in one of those fold up camping/fishing chairs,
in fact, for its outward appearance I find it a very roomy little van in the back.
I could do you some precise measurements if you really wanted, lol .
 
Albert, some precise measurements would be really handy, but only at your convenience, fella.

The reason that I want a little van rather than a big 'un is because of firstly, the economy aspect and secondly because when I go 'wild camping' I am often able to use height restricted car parks at country parks, etc and being only me there is no real need for a big van anyway.

No worries, I'll do some measurements tomorrow, you might struggle to get under some barriers tho! these little vans are deceivingly tall!
I'll measure outside for you too.
Im measuring mine up tomorrow anyway to try and get some roofbars made for a set of ladders, and get the inside ply'd out to try keep it kinda half tidy.
 
sorry Panda, been hectic my end,
some measurements for you
floor, bulkhead to rear doors = 1800mm
top of bulkhead to rear doors = 1620mm
floor width = 1350mm
floor between arches = 1110mm
height = 1400mm
top of bulkhead to roof = 800mm
(so bulkhead 600mm high, and angled 180mm into load bay)
arches to roof = 1100mm
hope that makes sense,
if not let me know and I'll try do a childish type of drawing for you (Im not a very good artist!!!)
 
Cheers my man! Looks like the Fiorino may indeed suit my needs. Just got to find a diesel one within striking distance of me, now.
