Well looking at cars with the otherhalf, i saw an Grande Punto Evo 1.4 Multi-air

Sat inside, i fell inlove!

The 1.4 turbo sounds good like a nice match of power to engine size

Anyway decided to put it through the insurance....

23y/o
6 y/No Claims
No convitions / accidents etc etc

Reasonable postcode
582 for the Evo
683 for my Mk2b Punto!

WHAT THE HELL!
Evo - group 21
Punto - group 9

Seriously what the hell?

i feel like i've been done....

I know how you feel, ive had a same situation when upgrading to my grande t jet.
Something seriously wrong with insurance companies.
Logically thinking though, newer cars are much safer so it brings the insurance price down by an awful lot sometimes!

Ziggy its all stats based - how many of your type of punt do you think get binned per annum in comparison to the new one - think of what age group commonly own each car ;)

There is a reason I don't go for main stream cars, not many in their early 20's smash up automatic Bravo's :)

No there isn't, just people who don't understand how insurance companies work.

Alot of my style will be scrapped/written off in a crash - not viable to repair

Mass market cars do make insurance cheaper sometimes tho

For example the picasso range when it first hit the scene, it was cheap to repair and insure because
A they were new
B - loads appeared on the road
C - lots of 1 car = mass parts = cheaper repair

when I was your age I was driving 2litre plus family cars the reason being that although they were much more powerful and bigger than the fiestas and nova's my mates were driving they were also not really driven by young drivers so statistically as mep pointed out it was much less likely for me to crash a 4x4 mondeo Ghia x than a 1.1 fiesta popular

when we (cough Other half) wrote off the Mk2b hgt multijet the car was valued at £2,500 replaced it with a mini valued at £16k but the insurance cost goes down by £20, just goes to show the value and group of the car bares little impact its mostly about the stats and the driver

a few years ago I proved the point when I showed a 18 year old coleage I could insure a 1997 ferrari F355 for £1500 (I was 26 at the time) which was much cheaper than the £2300 he was paying for his 1997 citroen saxo. doesn't take a genius to work out who is more likely to stack their car in that scenario

Hi,
If you need any help with insurance then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan.

Thanks Dan. Not on this occasion thanks.
The reason I ask is that on previous occasions I have found your terms to be eye-watering.
My son has insurance with you but took out a loan to pay up-front, otherwise the monthly terms were too high.
