Have you cycled through the various modes on the TV?

My desktop PC currently uses a Samsung LCD TV for a monitor, and we have to physically set it to "PC"

Failing that, check with your graphics options

Start>Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Monitor

Then you should see an option by your Graphics manufacturer, such as ATI, Intel, etc depending, and you should see something about graphics properties, then you need to set your TV as your PRIMARY monitor, which will turn off you monitor your currently using, but will appear on your TV. :)

Yeah i did that

how many graphics cards you got?

Just the one

Start>Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Monitor

Iv played with the settings for the display and extended display. I used to do it with my laptop and got it working no problem

iv also realised that the TV is getting a signal but its just a black screen. Im pretty sure its either the cable or some setting on my TV as iv tried just using the TV as my main screen and that doesnt work either, just get the black screen.

Has anyone got any ideas? Do i definatly have the right cable?/

Does your TV have a DVI-D input, or do you have a DVI to HDMI convertor?

Try reducing the screen resolution.

It just says DVI input?

Yeah thats what ill try last if nothing else works, my TV only has one HDMI slot though so i was trying to avoid it

Iv tried reducing the screen resolution through the PC, is that what you mean?

If it's Windows 7 the eaisest thing to do is hit the Windows Key + P.
Choose the extend option and it will work out the res for the TV automatically. Works for me :)

The first thing i tried to do was use windows and set it to extend the desktop

Try setting the refresh rate on the PC to 50, rather than 60Hz.
Usually the TV would display a signal out of range error if this was the problem though.

I can only change it to a minimum of 56 on my graphics card control centre, tried that and it didnt do anything

As long as your TV has a DVI input I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Try shutting your PC down and connecting the TV only to your PC (disconnect your monitor completely). Boot up and see if that works. What GFX card do you have?
