I drive a Fiat Brava it is a R Reg. I have been driving it quite happily for the last 6 months. However, yesterday morning the car would not start and it is now asking for a key code. I only have the blue key for the vehicle. What do I do

Asking ??? In what way ?
also does the engine turn over or its dead ?

Then it can be 2 things, or your key aint unrecognized by the immobilizer, or the antenna for the code reading is shot.

I get this occassionaly in mine when the contacts become a little worn in the key.

Open up the key and check all the contacts. One may require a little bending to ensure a good contact.

There are no contacts in a transponder, also those keys never give trouble.
There are 4 main areas for problems,
Faulty ring antenna or contacts (occasionally)
Faulty immobiliser codebox (more often)
Poor power supply to ecu ie contacts around relay, wiring to relay, wiring from relay to ecu (most common).
Faulty ecu (most rare).
