Hi

Has anyone fitted a performance air filter to their car not the induction kit just the filter. k&N is about £37. I was thinking of pipercross though is it any good? I have a sports exhaust so think it should make a fair bit of difference.

P.S I had a problem with the abs before fiat said £350
for new wiring, me and m8 took car apart to get to wire and it was damaged, repaired it and it works fine didnt cost anything just about 2hrs work!! glad I didnt take fiats advice.

filter

I have a k&n replacement element on my 1.2 16v. It makes very little difference to the performance but it lasts longer and has better dirt retention (keeps crud out). It may seem pricey for a filter but if it lasts forever it will pay for itself.

Will think about it. would rather get an induction kit but dont want the noise. Then I am going to chip it. I can get a progammable chip, via a laptop (like on fast and furious). It fits on any car and you can alter everything and save two settings at any one time so you could have one for power one for economy for example. I am waiting for m8 to try it on his cav first. its about £190 made by an australian company its imported in by a porsche dealer in london otherwise direct from the manafacuter its about £700.

Chips

I really don't think you'll see much benefit from chipping your car with such minor modifications to the engine. You can only get so much power from an engine, and Fiat will have spent a lot of time maximising the performance, emissions and life expectancy of the engine via the standard chip's programming.

Chipping only really works where you can alter the boost of a turbo, or if you've made substantial changes to the engine (ported/flowed head, different cams, etc). The exhaust and filter won't really make enough difference for a chip to be necessary.

In addition, you may well find it destroys your catalytic converter, which is going to cost you a fair bit when you get round to the MOT.

Also, are you planning on setting this chip up yourself? If so, you better be damned sure you know what you're doing: you could wreck the engine if you get it wrong.
