The cars now running! Yay!

Now I think I just need to replace the temp sensor. I should have dealt with this when the head was off ideally, but was to fixated on getting the head itself done.

It looks like the temp sensor is nackered. The only reading I get is from when the needle goes from rock bottom (as if ignition off) to 50 when the engine has been runnig a while. Otherwise no reading and the fan dosent come on.

Just to confrm this post is really ... it is definatley the temp sensor that needs replacing? I thought it might be a loose or corroded contact, but I do definatley think its the sensor.

Where would be best to get a temp sensor from? would a standard motorfactor have one (like they might a thermostat) or would I have to go to the Fiat dealer?

I'm sorry if this post has glaringly obious questions in it, I really just want to get this right!

I thought that was a symptom too, it would make sense. Though I did check the thermostat when I had the head off and it did open and close. I am guilty though of having not recorded the temperature it did this at.

Though how hot do the heaters blow in practise? I know the one on my old Saab blow hellish hot, and you can tell if its overheating from the heaters in the car. If its the same with the cinq then heaters never get that hot - they havent today atleast.

Ahh yes! Now why didnt I think of that!

The gauge is at full deflection when the lead is earthed.

I'm not a member of the Clubcento site so I cant get at the table you mentioned, though from how the sensor is meant to work (being a heat sensitive resistor) and the instant full reading from the gauge when earthed I'm thinking that it must be a faulty sensor.

Down to the motor factors tomorrow to fetch a sensor, then all the Cinq problems will be over :D

Thankyou Rallycinq!
