Stalked this site a lot of the years out of curiosity. Bought my first Fiat last week, 2004 Fiat Punto Sporting. It's in not too bad nick considering it's over 100k... But I think the 6 disc changer is dead so that'll go soon..
So I joined because I figured I'd gain some info from here! I have the mk2 model, and I'm led to believe the 16v Sporting is a 1.2, and the mk2b got a 1.4 16v replacement? Yet mine was sold to me as described 1.4. So the guy lied? Possibly.. Yet some sites I've been on for parts or checking the car etc will come back as saying it is a 1.4 16v, others say 1.2 16v. Regardless, it's kindda quick. Could it be possible my mk2 was one of the last to leave the factory and was given a new model engine? I've heard of this happening before with other brands.
