I just spoke to a guy (Who is very probably wrong about this!) who was telling me his Mk2 golf has an Audi 80 2lt engine, with Saab blahdyblah injectors and turbo. He said that any cars that have Bosch fuel systems are pretty much interchangable with other Bosch systems.

He then said- as my Bravo has a Bosch fuel system, (As long as it's 'k-jetronic' or something) I could easily and very cheaply turbo it by changing the fuel system with that of a turbo engine (Obviously making custom pipes etc).

Is he right?

I'm sure the oracle (Tom) will be able to say yes or no, but from what I have seen and heard it is very difficult to turbo a N/A engine, I'm sure you would have to change lots more things on top and would probably be as easy to do a 20vt conversion

I told him I'm sure it's not as simple as that, if it was, everybody would be doing it- People wouldn't go to the effort of Coupe turbo conversions!

A turbo engine has totally different internals, its not just a case of bolting a few bits on.

re

as tom says,

but your idiot was half right, most bosch injectors are interchangable, so for an upgrade to your 100bhp corsa you could buy some larger injectors off an 150bhp astra ( made up the astra and corsa bits, no idea what injectors they have!!!)

Bosch K Jetronic is a very old design of fuel injection too - think it's what was on my F reg 2.0 Cavalier many, many moons ago. I seriously doubt anything from it would be of much use on a more modern car.

If I remember right, K-jetronic doesn't use lambda or knock sensors. Chances are it wouldn't pass a modern car's emissions limits.
