Hey everyone,
I just found this forum and it's great. i just bought my first X1/9 and am in the process of restoring it. The body is decent but the engine is shot. It may be rebuildable, I just haven't gone that far yet. If it is "fubar" then I will be looking for a replacement. I don't have the need to drive super fast, but I enjoy testing the limits of a good car from time to time. My wife and I travel by car alot and this seems like the perfect car to have some fun in. What I am wondering is, if I have to replace the engine what recommendations would you all have for good power with max. gas milage. 1500 FI, 1500 carbed, 1500 w/1300 heads (carbed or FI), or something else that I haven't thought of. I might even consider having something shipped from overseas. The only drawback to that is finding parts if I have problems. I think the overseas engines are probabaly more fuel efficient than the ones available here in the states. I can't wait to get this little car running. From what I hear it's a minuature Ferrari. Any input would be very much appreciated. I'll keep you updated on the project. Hat_man.

finding parts for a euro spec isnt a problem, but the cost to have an Euro motor shipped to the states would be very high, and if your wanting fuel economy, then the US spec is the way to go. the euro had a hotter cam, & no smog equip, &thus more hp..which is good for performance, but not the best for gas. the US on the other hand tried so hard in the 70th to get as far(mileage wise) with as little gas as possible. thus the whole laundy list of things to aid in that quest. i would figure a FI 1500 would be the best for what your looking for. they have the best acceleration, higher top end, and great fuel economy but whatever route you choose remember that all model's of X's are all fun cars, w/ tons of charm, respectable performance, and great on gas. you cant go wrong. good luck and welcome to the forum
