Good regular servicing is what keeps any car going and in tip top running order. It maybe a low mileage but things like belts and rubber hoses go brittle and crack easy when not used much. Its not uncommon for a high miler thats been looked after to be alot better than a low miler thats had little use. That said the bodywork is usually better on a low miler. What (if any) history did you get with the car...? If history unknown i'd be inclined to do a full service on it - that being all fluids and filters and belts, check over all the hoses for cracks and splitting (replace as required), check condition of spark plugs and HT leads (again replace as required).

Brought it from the friend of the family No service history but I know it's been looked after and used so it hasn't been standing. Before I even brought it I had a mechanic look it over. It's got 4 brand new tyres and the breaks have been done recently.

well at the mileage if i wasn't sure it has had a timing belt (should be every 36k or every 4 years, whichever comes sooner) i'd be tempted to do that, and that would be perfect time to stick a new water pump on.
I thought the 899 had timing chains so that should not be a problem?

Check the fuel filter under the middle of the car. It is often missed.
Before you do any mods check with your underwriters.
If its your first car and you are young any mods will result in a feeling like anal rape without lube!

I'll check it out. Thank you. First car but unfortunately not that young. Well. I don't feel it haha! Only 22. Not looking to mod really. Maybe alloys (looking at punto gt alloys) maybe lower it a little but not any time soon.
