My 2003 JTD @ 50000 mls has a weird starting problem. Last night at -6c it took about 5 attempts to get started but this morning at -2c it started first time within a split second, and this has been consistent over the last few weeks. When the car runs it is perfect with no issues at all. If glow plugs were to blame do you not think the problem would show up with any temperature below zero? What are your thoughts on this? What do you think the problem could be? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

the colder it is the more difficult it will be for it to vaporise, 0 deg is the freezing point of water so not too relevant to diesel.

may be worth a couple of extra glow plug cycles before starting to give it a better chance of vaporising the fuel.
