Do Bravo JTDs suffer from Mass Air Flow (MAF) Meter problems? If so how easy are they to diagnose (DIY job or Fiat dealer ECU diagnostics)? If they are a known failure are they covered by any sort of warranty?

FYI, I've got a 2001(Y) Bravo JTD 100 which is a bit sluggish.

If you haven't already done so, the first thing I'd recommend is to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for an hour or so, then go for a normal drive for about half an hour. Worked for mine.

If it's sluggish and feels like the turbo is not kicking in then get a diagnostic done by your local Fiat dealer.
THe fuel consumtption will be pretty crap as well as you have your foot flat to the floor just to get it to 70....

It will either be the EGR or air flow meter. On mine it was the air flow meter. Cost for the diagnostic was £32 inc VAT. £194.32 inc VAT to replace and fit the AFM. The meter costs £165 on it's own!!!! So total was £228 or so. Expensive but necessary.

Hope this helps,

A.

Re: jtd

Or you could undo the two security screws that hold the sensor in the housing, carefully take it out, and VERY carefully clean the taut wire sensor, using a soft paintbrush and a drop of petrol.

Change the diesel filter and the air filter before you do anything else. The diesel filter seems to choke up quite easily and will make the car feel rather sluggish.
