Hi guys. Haven't posted in a while as we passed the Bravo on to my stepson a few months ago. He was loving every minute driving it but a few days ago the car just died on him while he was driving. We've managed to get the car to a local mechanic who confesses to being stumped. His initial diagnosis was the cam sensor but that has proved not the case. The fuel filter has been replaced and there is pressure to and from the filter housing. Three of the injectors have been tested and are working well (the fourth was proving very difficult to remove). The car will start briefly with easy start but not without. Various sensors have been swapped with those from a known runner with no change in the result. We've already spent £300+ and are reluctant to spend more on parts that may make no difference.

The mechanic is now suspecting an ECU fault but can't be certain. An initial diagnostic check showed no significant faults.

Any suggestions fellas?

No faultlight on dash?
"no significant faults", so there is something?
Cambelt?

Connect multiecuscan, crank, see if it has permission to start (anti-theft, should read "permission to start" or something like that on multiecuscan).
Also check other sensors while cranking (crank/cam/temperature).

Did you use external pump/testbench when testing the injectors?
Failed drive for the high pressure pump would be pretty bad.
You could try probing the injector wiring if they are getting pulses (normal multimeter wont do as they are slow).

I haven't done anything to the car, it's with a local mechanic who has been testing stuff. I wouldn't have the equipment for testing things like injectors. The only parts I personally changed are the MAF and the crank position sensor. That was only 12,000 miles ago. I'm not aware of any warning lights on the dash apart from the glowplug light which has always blinked a few times even though starting has been fine in all temperatures.

Thinking this car might have to scrapped and that is such a shame.

Take it to a mechanic or garage that know what they are doing. From what you have written your current "mechanic" clearly hasn't got a clue.
