Ok, my insureance is due in 3 weeks time, I'll be 19, with 1 years no claims, been driving for 18 months.

Last year I paid £996.88 for the year fully comp, I got my renewal cost though the post today and...its £986.08...yes just £10.80.

In the post it said 'For this coming year, we have allowed a discount equivalent to 2 years No Claim Bonus.' I phoned up Tescos to see if they could do any better, which they did £908 (With staff discount as well), however I can only transfer 1 years NCB as one was for pass plus. Which put the cost up to over 1k with Tescos.

I've phoned a few places up, and no one can really beat what MoreThan have quoted. However, I went online and did a quote there, put in the same details and its £895 for the year, and I did a quote a few weeks ago and it was £780...(They where both with my 1NCB to start with).

Anyone got any ideas on what I can do?

mine was the same with more then unfortunately

i payed £1300 last year, this year they wanted £1350

hence why i used confused.com and put mummy on the insurance to get £850 with elephant :)

I cant do that seeing as I will be the main driver of the car.

I've just done another quote though MoreThan, putting that I have 2 years NCB which they have said I have if I stay with them, and its now £680.98. I've finally found a number to (hopefully) speak to someone who I can understand what they are saying.

I really cant get my head round the fact its only £10 less than before (When I was 18 had driving for 6 months), this time I'll be 19 and driving for 18 months.

Went though every number in the company in the above sticky and they cant do any better :(

You can put your mum/dad on your car policy, as long as you are still the main driver.

Surely that will make them a named driver, meaning it will go up? Seeing as I'll be using it mostly still (all the time).

I've now found out that it was a mistake that I had 2 years NCB, which I am not happy about at all, been on the phone for 90 minutes and I think its now sorted hehe :D

No, putting them on as a named driver 'should' make the premium go down, in most cases - it is risk mitigation.

I tried putting my mum on, but because she had made a claim, it was more, and it was more to put my step dad on even with full NCB.

Managed to get it down to £914 plus £25 fuel card as well.

Try Elephant.co.uk

I have been with them from day one.

At 18 I was paying £850 on a Punto Sporting with my mum on it as a second named driver.

They beat everyone by a country mile when I was a new driver. Don't know what they are like now for new drivers though but give them a try to see.

well, first try the FiatForum insurance and see what they can do for you ;)

failing that try out quinn-direct as they were excellent for me for 3 years! (although in the last year it only went down £50 but that seems to be the way insurance is going.....)

Elephant where more than what I was paying currently.

FiatForum insurance wont insure me as I'm 18 (I'll be 19 when it needed to be renewed), but at 19 they only take you with Third Party, and I want fully comp.

4 websites, try them all

moneysupermarket.com
comparethemarket.com
confused.com
beatthatquote.com

these will compare hundreds of companies so you only need to type your details 4 times. If you have a careful family member with full NCB etc, put them on as a second driver. They don't have to drive it, my mum is on my insurance (saves me over £200) and she can't even drive a manual!
