got standard front speakers in me cinq and 6x9's in the rear shelf,so was thinking of getting a sub/amp for the boot and understand these would affect the 6x9's performance so was wondering do i put the 6x9's in the rear quarter panels as ive seen done or my dual mag co-ax's.which ones will suit best as im not looking to shake it to bits just a nice quality sound oh yeah and obviously replace the fronts:I

You will have to be careful when it comes to installing your speakers in the rear quarter panels, and I dought U'll be able to fit ur 6x9's in there.

I wanted to do this and luckly the speakers I wasnted to fit only just did, and they were a pair of 5 1/4" Kenwood speakers.

I've included a link below so you can see what they look like.

They is quite a bit of room behind the nearside quarter panel, but things are extremely tight on the offside, as this is the side where the fuel filler cap is and behind the quarter panel there is a large piece of metal that stops you from placing your speakers.

I hope this helps you out, and I should think that if a pair of Kenwood 5 1/4" speakers fit in the quarter panels then other speakers of the same size should fit as well.

ah you,ve just fitted them there i like that, the other ones i had seen had fitted an MDF board over the arm rest section and then placed the speaker in there.the ones you,ve fitten are the same size as the dual magsare the same size but i might hace to check if the mag's are deeper or shallower than 'normal'.glad you replied i thought everyone was ignoring me:D

Not a problem mate anytime,

I prefer the suttle approach rarther than the full-on in ya face approach. The speakers sound good where they are but the plastic panel they are mounted to does flex a little so I was thinking of taking them out and putting some Brown bread on the back of it, just to make it a little stiffer, and stop it from flexing so much.

You have to be really carefull when it comes to fitting these speaker in theis location as once you remove the drivers side panel, I will go, "How on earth can U fit a speaker in there?" But they do fit, JUST!

On the back of the quarter panel is a thin layer of foam and this has been conpressed where it presses up against the metal fuel filler bit, so U can get a good idea of how much space you have avalible. I carefully lined my speaker up which put it over the rear ash tray, not that it matters as I don't allow people to smoke in my car anyway.

Hope this extra infor helps you out.

I had some 10cm co-axials in there before I took them out. The panels that they sit on isnt the ideal baffle for any speakers. I fully sound deadened them and the metal panle behind which helped rattles but I wouldnt bother in future, Its a small car, you dont need rear speakers. Spend your time and money on getting some decent components in the front.

shouldnt imagine you would have a problem with 6x9s in ur shelf aswell. set ur head unit up properly to filter out most bass through the fronts and 6x9's and let ur sub and amp handle all the bass. is wat im running and sounds fine. what HU u got??

Having already installed my speakers in the rear quarter panels, and found out that the speakers worn't performing as well as they should because of the flex in the panel itself, and they were theoretically mounted in a thin tin box. I decided to do something about it.

I sound proofed inside the quarter panel arroud the wheel arch, and this definatley improved the sound, but I was still convinced that they could sound better if the quarter panels themselfs were sound proofed

Taking both of the rear quarter panels out I stripped off the foam and the horrible glue they use to stick it down with (It took blimming AGES, as the glue is a right git to remove). But I persisted and after a couple of hours both the foam and the glue was removed from the plastic panel.

Taking my time, (a further couple of hours per side), I carefully installed the Brownbread to the back of the quarter panel.

Below are the pictures of before and after. I hope this helps those who want to install speakers in this location.
