Mythbusters featured this - I don't know how long ago, as I watched it on Discovery channel in South Africa, so it could have been new or old.
The episode was about 'viral videos' - and to prove or disprove them. As an initial evaluation, they made a scale model, which worked a treat.
Moving onto the real thing, their conclusion was that it is certainly possible - although Mythbusters could only muster four fire trucks, so to achieve success, they had to remove the engine/transmission from the VW Golf that they used.
(as for the topic of this thread, Mythbusters obviously thought it was a VW Golf... or perhaps it was impossible to obtain a Nova in the USA.)
