The horizontal bar behind the bumper has a big dent in it, which has slightly bent it back to nearly touching the radiator.

is this a write off?

can this be removed / replaced or is it a welded part of the chassis?

im gutted.. think the car may be uneconomical to repair now : (

its only in one part, and couldnt really notice till i just took the bumper off.. but its time for its MOT in a couple of weeks

Which one there as 3, the one thats an integral part of the chassis? The one the slam plannel is on? Guessing not the bottom one the rad sits on.

I imagine its the main one, if this is damaged you've a high chance some of the rest of the chassis is twisted. That bit looks like it could be replaced, bolted then welded in place. But i'm not 100% sure.

When I smashed myn 18 months ago a new cross member cost me £13 If you look on the image it is number 11.

Nothing to wory about mate it will need to be ground of and a new one welded on but no problem at all (y)

its either 10 or 11 in that pic..

it sits directly behind the number plate

whats number 10 then? your prob right it is number 11, but if its number 10,.. can this also be replaced? or is it going to be a sods law situation?

if no clarity by tomorrow night.. ill post a pic up of it

thanks

an hour prepping what? your car had the same?

Any rough guesses of cost?

If i put a couple of bolts through to hold the bumper on.. then take it down to themm, and whip it off quicky.. they could tell me?

Whats a jig exactly? apart from a dance? Any rough guesses of cost? im well skint at the moment.. and doubt this will be good news :(

A jig is a machine used in body shops to straighten bent chassis and some other parts of the car. No idead of cost, the parts are probably cheap but the time is what will cost you, im guessing you looking at probably around £200 but i could be wrong just go down to a few bodyshops and get some quotes.

Sorry preping as my original one had a touch of corrosion so i cleaned it back to bare metal painted then used sealant on it.

Cost - no idea lift the phone and find out.

If its been hit slightly in the middle and not on the chassis leg ends to hard!, you should be ok, position a block of suitable sized wood behind the crossmember and wrap a rope around it and the other end around a suitable strong post, (i have used lampposts and telegragh poles before) and gently rock the car backwards and forwards manualy (no need to drive off in reverse) and it should pull it out sufficianty enough to attach the bumper, pic of mini jig in work Ant!

its only a MOT failed if it stops the function of the main parts of the car it the brakes lights. i had this problem with me old fiat punto but i brought that as a cat C.
in the end it would have cost me well over 600 quid to put it back on the road with out the extra of welds in place. IF you hit the car in the middle i and there is no problems with the chassis legs well a brand new slam panel and the bumper bar witch you must weld on properly and if i was you reinforce it as well.

don't forget if you have a smash in the same place again it will increase the amount of injures to your self and who ever in the car so you got to think is it worth it.

but other wise good look

i took the bumper off to fix a few cracks, and noticed the bar was bent in wuite badly.. and noticed you could also just see the bend over the top of the bumper
